I teach upholstery classes for beginners and more experienced students on Tuesday Evenings, Wednesday daytimes and some Sundays at the Makershed , St Pauls Learning Centre, Bristol.

Description

PART-TIME COURSES IN BASIC UPHOLSTERY

This course involves upholstering a small stool and drop in seat for a dining chair. We provide all the materials, including the stool and drop in seat frames. At the end of the course the stool is yours to take home.

LEARN HOW TO:

Stool:

  • Use upholstery tools effectively
  • Web, pad and cover

Drop-in Seat:

  • Strip and recondition a frame
  • Stuff using traditional materials
  • Cover with calico then top fabric.

COURSE LENGTH
4 weeks of daytime classes or 8 weeks of evening classes.

Description

PART-TIME COURSES IN BASIC UPHOLSTERY

This course involves constructing a stuffed and stitched dining chair. You provide the chair to be reupholstered and the top covering and we provide all other materials.
Skill level: 2
(You should have completed our Upholstery for Beginners Level 1 course or equivalent).

LEARN HOW TO:

  • stuff layers of coir and hair
  • fit scrim hessian
  • do through stuffing ties
  • do blind and edge roll stitching

COURSE LENGTH
4 weeks of daytime classes or 8 weeks of evening classes.

Description

PART-TIME COURSES IN ADVANCED UPHOLSTERY

These classes involve stripping and re-upholstering a small project of your choice. This could be any stool or chair – you might choose a small nursing chair or armchair for example. At the end of your course your stool or chair will have a new lease of life. This course is suitable for those who would like to build on existing upholstery skills (Makershed Upholstery Level 1 & 2 Courses or similar completed) with an experienced tutor
Skill level: 3
(You should have completed our Upholstery for Beginners Level 1 & 2 courses or equivalent).

LEARN HOW TO:

  • stuff layers of coir and hair
  • fit scrim hessian
  • do through stuffing ties
  • do blind and edge roll stitching
  • upholster traditional or modern chairs

COURSE LENGTH
4 weeks of daytime classes or 8 weeks of evening classes. You will be able to book extra classes at the end of your course if you wish to spend more time on your project.

The course fee does not include materials other than basic upholstery sundries.
